Artist's Description
This is a plein air watercolor painting of an autumn scene at Daizahoshi-ike, a pond in the Iizuna highlands of Nagano Prefecture, Japan. The body of water was said to have been created when, once upon a time, a giant named Daidara sat on the nearby Mount Iizuna to rest. When he got up, his first step made a dent on the land, which later gathered rainwater and become the pond we know today.
