Description
Beautiful ornate bronze tourou or garden lantern, a traditional Japanese light basket or tower. Saw this one at the ancient Horyu-ji temple in Nara, and thought the noren or curtains of the building at the back fit well with the circular patterns on the lantern. I added a simple kamon (family crest)-inspired geometric shapes in front the bring out the circular patterns on the image.
