Artist's Description
This watercolor+digital painting is my "modernized" version of the 18th century Japanese artist Ogata Korin's "Akikonomuchugu-zu" (1701). The painting depicts a character from the ancient novel, The Tale of Genji. I drew and painted the figure by hand, then added the background digitally. For the calligraphy I chose a "waka" or Japanese poem written in the 13th century, about the loneliness of autumn.
