Dome interior of Tokyo Station after restoration in 2012. It features egg-yolk yellow plaster, floral reliefs in the form of clematis plants, eagle-shaped relief with a wingspan of more than 2 meters, and Zodiac animal reliefs (ox, tiger, dragon, snamke, goat, monkey, dog, boar). Ridges and eaves are copper sheathed, with no artificial green aging applied so that it can age naturally over time. The building was designed by Kingo Tatsuno (1854-1919) and opened in 1914, an historic work representing Meiji-style (late 19th century to early 20th century) western architecture. Postwar reconstruction altered certain parts of the building, but the latest restoration brought back its original form. Old photographs, documents and literature were used as reference. Interior elements that had hopes of being preserved were reinforced and refitted.
